Male vs Female Assertiveness

Why are some females looked down on when they are assertive? In every instance when a male is assertive he is considered a hero, strong or a leader. Its considered ultimately a great quality. For females that is not the case. It is seen as ungrateful, rude, arrogant or just plain bitchy for lack of another word.

Why are females just expected to grin and bear it? While many will go out of their way to not confront a male peer for fear of their reaction, this is not the case with a female.
Females will sometimes be confronted on things their male peers are not and if they do not respond in a passive manner people get upset and wonder what is wrong with them.

For example: In a paid research group of 6 people there are 4 males and 2 females, Bob, Jack, Sammy, James, Mary and Liz. Bob is very boisterous and always saying how he deserves much more money then he is making now. While he is overall annoying to some, he is generally looked at positively. He is looking out for himself and what better person to talk about yourself then you. Its said if you want something you should ask for it and that’s what he is doing.

Liz is very similar while less boisterous than Bob she also feels she deserves a raise. Instead of screaming it out for the world to hear, when approached by the people who can ensure her one she tells them how she feels. Even though Liz is much less boisterous then Bob she is generally looked down on. She has some nerve asking for a raise is their response. Her actions are deemed inappropriate or greedy even. Its outrageous that she would try to determine her own worth. Even if Liz did not ask for a raise there is no guarantee she would ever get one. Sitting still and wishing on a star that someone will acknowledge her worth will not work for every situation or environment. While she sits still Bob is steadily advancing and she is left wondering what she did wrong.

So, as you can see, Liz can’t win in any instance. Liz can neither get a raise being silent like Mary nor can she get a raise being assertive like Bob. It is most likely Bob will get a raise because his assertiveness is heroic.

As a kid I considered myself very passive. I hated that though. At the end of the day I gained nothing. I behaved like people thought I should but that was all. They were pleased and I was left with nothing more than what I started with. As I observed others I realized the people that moved forward were assertive and grabbed what they wanted by the reigns. So I tried to become more assertive as well.

What difference does it make to please everyone else yet gain nothing? Even if people look at my assertiveness negatively I will continue to press forward as I have nothing to lose. I would have gained no more being a silent unaccounted for fish than being a shark people were aggravated with.

I rather be the shark, I rather be remembered for not taking any nonsense or saying/standing for what I believe. I don’t want to be remembered for cowering in a corner trying to please the masses.
So I will keep being assertive whether people like it or not. It’s better to be a shark than be devoured by one.

E3 2011

So far this year E3 feels very lack luster. I knew about Gears of War 3 so while it was nice to see it in the Microsoft Conference it was nothing surprising. Glad Cloud Saves are coming to the 360 but what else is there? I would have loved to see Dark Souls highlighted again but I got nada. No, I do not care about the various Halos they plan to make, no I do not care about Kinetic.

Unfortunately, I did not get to watch the Sony Conference but I heard I missed nothing much. No, I do not want another handheld with no software or remakes. So sorry not excited about PSP Vita.

I really was hoping Ubisoft would surprise me with a new Prince of Persia but fair enough that was just wishful thinking.

Nintendo’s Conference is going on right now. I really could care less but I am watching. Just maybe like last year there will be some surprises like Donkey Kong and Golden Sun. I am hoping there is something from anyone that will redeem E3 in my eyes this year because right now its uber fail.

New Changes to GlassDrop Workaholic

After showing Glassdrop to some friends at work, I made some changes of my own and ones that they suggested. I am aiming to have this game finished up either this week or next week.
Some of the changes I made were:

Making the power ups bigger.
Moving the power ups to the bottom of the screen.
Moving the multiplier count to the middle of the screen and making it bigger.
Making all the interface a bit bigger.
Making the bomb rainbow colored.

There are more changes and additions to come.

The Funniest Online Comments

I like to read peoples comments on anything because I find some to be hilarious. Therefore I wanted to start posting The Funniest Online Comments in my blog. Today so far the funniest comment I have read revolves around a user on Kotaku complaining that the article written on Mass Effect 3 having male on male relationships is a spoiler. Alot of people thought this was absurd and responded to the whiner in great fashion.

The funnies comment goes to Luke Plunkett : spoiler: the game is in space

I think this come back is perfect as it points out just how absurd the the complainer is being. Kotaku telling you Mass Effect 3 will have male on male action can in no way spoil the game. The fact that the game has male on male action is not even relevant to anything important in the story. xD So thank you Luke Plunkett, you get the I am entertained award for today.

Gears 3 Beta

One more day before the Gears 3 Beta is over and I will have to wait till September to play again. It burns, but I am really excited about the game even more. I thoroughly enjoyed the beta. It had its ups and downs but overall I had fun. I am interested in playing multiplayer much more than I was in Gears 2. Horde and Coop Single player were my interests in Gears 2 and I had some awesome memorable times with friends. I am looking forward to branching out in Gears 3 to multi-player and creating more cool memories thanks to the beta. I really liked team deathmatch mode which is usually the mode I prefer in any shooter if done well. I am all about getting kills I do not care about capturing your teams flag or leader xD.

I have some questions about choices they made overall such as the sawed off shotgun which gives players a one shot kill. It amazes me that they included a another shot gun after people complained how OP the shotgun was in Gears 2 xD. I guess they just do not care about you and your complaints. Though they did have a beta so that could not be 100% true. The sawed off shotgun is what annoys me the most about the game so far. Second in line is the retro lancer. Its does much more damage then the traditional lancer and its run in and puncture chainsaw animation is quicker that the rev up chainsaw of the lancers. I find it intriguing that they would make a gun that would basically make the traditional lancer feel inferior. At least it does to me at the moment but I still use it because unlike the retro lancer I don’t have to burst fire. I commend people who use the retro because I cannot seem to get the hang of it as of yet.

I really liked the idea of the digger launcher. It is executed well and makes the game even more manic. The Digger launcher allows players to shoot what seems like a parasite of some sort underground and after a few feet it will reappear above ground and explode in what your enemy hopes is your face. xD I did not get to use it at all but I found it equally entertaining when I had it used against me. I also thought the incendiary grenades were a nice new touch to the game. I love seeing opponents instantly set aflame o_O. Is that wrong of me? Probably so, but oh well.

I was super pleased to play with a female Gears member Anya. It felt good to not have to play with Carmine just because I wanted a character that felt light and did not look like a brick. My favorite maps of the beta were Checkout and Thrashball. I liked them because they very small enough to manage but not too small and had a strong concept / theme to them. If I had to choose those would have been the only maps I played the entire beta. The other 2 maps were a bit bigger thus included a lot of paths making it hard to manage. Also the inclusion of the hammer of dawn and the one shot sniper on one map can be a bit ridiculous making it almost extremely difficult to be on the offensive if a team has both in there possession.

Overall, Epic is smart. I love the fact they included in game milestones or achievements to unlock certain weapons, characters or items for retail the more you played the beta. It definitely added more depth to the beta and help keep my interest in playing. I am hoping these stats or achievements carry over to the main game but I am sure they will.
As a final note I am really looking forward to seeing what they did with Horde in Gears 3 and spending more time with the sniper rifle again. I did not get much opportunity to use it in the beta due to the first come first serve layout of the game but I am definitely looking forward to using it more in the future. If you can get a code I advise you check it out these last 2 days. September is a while aways and you should at least get a taste of the fun to come.

Powdered Donuts

Powdered donuts are very delicious but why must they be so messy : (.
Its a dilemma I go through every time I desire one. Should I eat one and become white as snow or should I skip it all together. When I finally give in I throughly enjoy my donut but struggle to keep my clothes clean. xD
